Udaipur: City of lakes and palaces
The city of lakes and palaces

Hey there! Welcome to Udaipur, the magical city of lakes and palaces! Situated right in the heart of Rajasthan, This city is like a dream come true for anyone who loves history, jaw-dropping architecture, and peaceful scenery. I visited Udaipur just this March for two days, and let me tell you, it was love at first sight! If you’re into photography or just love soaking in stunning landscapes, this place is an absolute paradise. With its majestic palaces and serene lakes, Udaipur is like a dream come true. Trust me, you’re in for a treat! Let’s dive into this magical city together and capture some unforgettable moments.

Udaipur Palace: A Royal Affair

So, my first stop bright and early in the morning was the City Palace, a huge complex standing tall by Lake Pichola, filled with stories as cool as its architecture. Take a stroll around and feel like you’ve gone back in time – it’s like stepping into a movie!.

Now, let me give you a heads-up: if you’re an Indian tourist like me, the entry fee might seem a unreasonable. It was 400 bucks per person, plus an extra 400 if you wanted a personal guide. And if you want to go for a fancy a boat ride after 3 o’clock, that’s another 600 rupees per person!

But here’s the scoop: skip the personal guide and go for the audio guide instead. It covers all the info, plus you’ll have plenty of time to snap pics and videos – something you might miss out on with a guide in tow. And speaking of boat rides, save your cash and opt for a similar experience at Fatehsagar Lake during sunset – way cheaper (150-200) and just as awesome.

Now, onto the palace itself. Plan for a good 2 to 3 hours to soak it all in. Oh, and whatever you do, don’t miss out on the veg thali here. Trust me, it’s a winner – especially with the daal bati. Beats many of the fancy restaurants nearby, hands down!

Ambrai Ghat: Serenity by the Lake

Let’s head to Ambrai Ghat, a beautiful spot by Lake Pichola. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning view of the City Palace, especially during sunset when everything is bathed in golden light. Bring your camera along—it’s a favourite spot for photographers! Trust me, of all the ghats, Ambrai offers the best view of the lake and palace. Don’t miss it in the evening for a breathtaking sunset. It’s my favorite spot from the entire two-day itinerary.

Bahubali Hills:

The next day, I rented a Royal Enfield GT 650 motorcycle to explore Udaipur in a different way. I headed to Bahubali Hills early in the morning for the sunrise. It was an amazing ride. Bahubali Hills is perfect for those seeking adventure. The hike isn’t too difficult, suitable for beginners. At the top, you’re rewarded with a stunning view of Badi Lake and the Aravalli Range. Whether it’s sunrise or sunset, the scenery is magical, with the light dancing on the water.

Bahubali Hill

Monsoon Palace: Clouds and Castles

Our next spot was Monsson palace. Nestled high on a hill, the Monsoon Palace, also called Sajjangarh Palace, offers a jaw-dropping view of Udaipur. Built by Maharana Sajjan Singh, it was meant as a cool getaway and a perfect perch for watching the monsoon clouds roll in. Getting there is half the fun, with twisty roads and views that steal your breath away. Cruising up on my Royal Enfield, every bend brought a new thrill.

Monsoon Palace

Once I reached, a cool breeze and a panorama of the city and its lakes welcomed me. It’s like stepping into a picture postcard scene. The place is a photographer’s dream, with endless angles to capture and moments to cherish. And amidst all this beauty, there’s a sense of peace that just washes over you

Shilpgram Village: A Tapestry of Tradition

Shilpgram Village, also known as the “Craftsmen’s Village,” sits approximately 3 kilometres away from Udaipur, showcasing a lively rural arts and crafts complex. Its mission is to safeguard the traditional arts and crafts of Rajasthan and its neighbouring regions. Within this living museum, visitors can immerse themselves in exploring authentic huts, witnessing artisans demonstrate their craft, and acquiring handmade treasures ranging from pottery to textiles. An annual fair held in December celebrates folk music, dance, and crafts from all corners of India. As Indians, it’s imperative to uphold our rich cultural heritage, making Shilpgram a destination not to be missed. With its array of unique offerings, from natural nail art to traditional Rajasthani puppet shows, there’s something delightful for every visitor.

Saheliyon Ki Bari

Our next stop on the trip was Saheliyon Ki Bari, also known as the Garden of the Maidens. It’s a peaceful spot by Fateh Sagar Lake, built by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal court’s women. The garden is a beautiful place with lush plants, colorful flowers, and lovely fountains. You’ll find marble pavilions and elephant-shaped water spouts here, making it even more charming. The sound of water flowing from the fountains, powered by the lake, adds to the tranquil vibe, perfect for a leisurely walk or quiet reflection. It’s a timeless blend of nature and architecture, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy its serene beauty.

Fateh Sagar Lake

In the evening, we went for a drive to Fateh Sagar Lake, which is another beautiful lake in Udaipur. It’s man-made and named after Maharana Fateh Singh. People love it for its pretty sights and calm water. The road to the lake is really nice. I enjoyed riding my bike there and admiring the view. The lake has three small islands, and the biggest one has Nehru Park, where you can hang out, see gardens, and visit a zoo. Taking a boat ride on Fateh Sagar Lake is a great way to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and see the Aravalli hills from a different perspective. There are also cafes nearby where you can try some tasty street food. I’d suggest sticking to simple dishes like pav bhaji, which was really good there

I could only cover a few places because

I understand that there are still many more places to explore in Udaipur, but I chose to focus on just a few. For me, it’s not about ticking off every spot on the itinerary but truly immersing yourself in the essence of each destination. As the famous line from the movie “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” goes, no matter how much you try to experience everything, something will inevitably slip away. So, savour every moment where you are. After all, traveling isn’t just about visiting places; it’s about embracing the beauty and uniqueness of each location.
