If you reside in Surat or any neighbouring city and are tired of the everyday hustle and bustle and are looking to explore a nearby offbeat destination that is less crowded, unique,  peaceful, and pleasant, then you have come to the perfect place. I bet there is no better offbeat place than Thuti within a 100-kilometer radius of Surat. A short visit to Thuti might help you revive yourself and replenish the magic inside you.

Thuti- The mini Goa

Thuti is a small, beautiful village near Songadh, vyara, Gujarat, located on the side of the Ukai Dam reservoir which is  Gujarat’s second-largest reservoir after the Sardar Sarovar reservoir. Thuti is a beautiful place with a serene and tranquil body of water surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. The water is crystal clear and glistens in the sunlight, creating a mesmerizing visual display. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, with rolling hills, and towering trees,  adding to the picturesque view. The air is often filled with the sweet fragrance of flowers and the sound of chirping birds, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. A gentle breeze passes through, creating ripples on the water’s surface and adding to the overall tranquility of the scene.

How to Reach

To reach Thuti, there are several transportation options available.

  • By road:– Thuti is accessible by road, so you reach there by bike, or car, or take a public bus from nearby towns like Uchchal, Songadh, or Vyara to reach the village. If you love bike riding and off-road biking is your passion, then I highly recommend taking an early morning ride to this destination – I’m confident that the experience will be truly fantastic.

  • By rail: The closest railway station to Thuti is in Vyara, which is about 22 km away. From the Vyara railway station, visitors can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Thuti.
  • By air:The nearest airport to Thuti is Surat Airport, which is about 95 km away. Visitors can take a taxi or a bus from Surat to reach Thuti.

I do not recommend considering the later two options, as if you live more than 150 km away from Thuti, then it’s not worth dedicating an entire day to this place. Instead, I suggest exploring other beautiful offbeat destinations in your nearby region, which can help save time and still offer a great experience.

Best time to visit:-

 The ideal time to visit this location is during the winter months, between November and February, when the weather is cool and pleasant. During this time, the lush greenery of the surroundings is at its best, and the water reservoir is full, providing an ideal setting for capturing some breathtaking photographs. Additionally, the early morning hours offer a perfect opportunity to witness the beautiful and vibrant sunrise, which can add an extra special touch to your travel experience.

It is advisable to avoid visiting the location during the summer months, between March and May, as the weather can be hot and humid, making it uncomfortable for outdoor activities. Similarly, the monsoon season, from June to October,can bring heavy rains and create difficulties in reaching the location.

6:00 AM – Departure from Surat 

Begin your journey early in the morning from Surat to Thuti. The distance between the two places is around 100 km, and it takes approximately 2.5 hours to reach by road. If you want to enjoy sunrise start your journey by 5 AM.

8:30 AM – Arrival in Thuti 

Upon arrival in Thuti, take some time to freshen up and have breakfast. You can find local food stalls and restaurants near the Thuti Ukai Dam.

9:30 AM – Explore Thuti Ukai Dam.

11:30: AM – Lunch 

Have lunch at one of the local food stalls or restaurants and savor the unique flavors of the region.

12:30 PM – Visit the nearby destination

  • Gaumukh Waterfalls (Songadh)- 16km
  • Ukai dam – 17 km
  • Doswada dam – 20 km

4:30 PM – Departure 

Begin your journey back to Surat and enjoy the scenic drive back.

6:30 PM – Arrival in Surat

Arrive in Surat and end your one-day tour of Thuti with unforgettable memories.
